Navigating nature-related disclosures under CSRD and TNFD

Around 50,000 European companies and additional non-EU-based companies with a large branch in the EU are required to report under the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). These Standards provide more detail on the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and companies are already required to disclose in relation to the 2024 financial year. The TNFD provides foundational concepts for a market-accessible language system for understanding nature, including with the LEAP approach which is suggested by the ESRS as a tool to perform the materiality assessment of environmental topics beyond climate change.

The TNFD has recently published a mapping of the TNFD recommendations and disclosure metrics with the ESRS, jointly released with EFRAG. This new mapping is added to the already existing number of reports being published highlighting the alignments and correspondences between different standards and frameworks.

This webinar covers those ESRS reports that are already being advanced by companies in Europe, and how ESRS report preparers are approaching the adoption of the TNFD recommendations and the TNFD approaches to the identification and management of nature-related issues. The webinar will also reflect upon the way in which the TNFD guidance can help these companies approach the assessments and disclosures required under the ESRS.

Key focus areas of this webinar

  1. Provide a brief overview of final EFRAG/TNFD mapping and any additional findings from TNFD interviews with ESRS preparers and report users, e.g. on presentation preferences
  2. Present examples of initial disclosure reports already being prepared by companies in accordance with ESRS/CSRD
  3. Present how companies can prepare for disclosure of TNFD reports during their ESRS-aligned report preparation
  4. Discuss how early adopters of TNFD are making use of TNFD guidance in preparing for the ESRS disclosures, in addition of TNFD adoption, and any existing challenges when approaching the two
